Fun Ocean Facts

The oceans make up 70% of the world's surface.

The Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean and it covers about
30% of our world's surface.

The Atlantic Ocean is the second biggest and it covers about
21% of the world's surface.

There are five oceans on our planet:
  1. The Pacific Ocean
  2. The Atlantic Ocean
  3. The Indian Ocean
  4. The Southern Ocean
  5. The Arctic Ocean
There are also more than a dozen seas. That's a lot of water!

The oceans are home to a lot of fish, birds, reptiles, and mammals.

Spotted dolphins are common in the Bahamas.

White pelicans travel very far every year to find warmer weather.

Cormorants love to sit on the channel markers and dry their feathers. Their feathers don't have any oil in them so they can dive down deep to get fish. It means they have to dry their feathers out all the time in the sun.

The blue whale is the largest animal on the planet. It's even bigger than the dinosaurs.

The deepest part of the ocean is the Marianna Trench in the Pacific Ocean. It's 36,198 feet deep.

More than 80% of the people that live on Earth live within 60 miles of the ocean, and almost 4 billion people depend on fish as their main source of food.
